In a small village, two bilingual friends, Maki and Kana, met quite naturally. Both were already helping their friends with interpretation, so they decided to turn their skills into a business and launched Hakuba Assist, a translation and consulting service.
At the beginning, they also started a dinner delivery service called “Hakuba Munchies” – long before food delivery apps like Uber Eats ever existed! As they continued supporting entrepreneurs from overseas, they were asked to manage vacation homes. This was the beginning of Shiki Living’s property management business.
Miharu, who originally joined as a cleaner, stayed on as an office assistant and has become the backbone of Shiki Living. She delivers heartfelt service for every guest.
Later, Moeka joined the team, bringing her intelligence and insight to streamline operations and take the company to the next level.
After a couple of years later, we welcomed Ia Zhu from Taiwan. From day one, she has been leveraging her trilingual skills to work efficiently and calmly. With extensive experience in the hospitality industry, she was a seasoned professional from the start.
And then came Kyogo – the very first male member of Shiki Living! A true all-rounder, he proactively takes on any task and is loved by people of all ages for his friendly character. He shines in guest services.
At Shiki Living, we are constantly evolving to keep our team at its best. Everyone works together, with genuine camaraderie, always striving to deliver the highest quality of service.
As of July 2026, the business has been transferred from Makiko and Kanako to COCOZAS Inc., and we have become part of the COCOZAS group. We will continue striving to further enhance customer satisfaction by improving our operations and overall service quality.
I was born and raised in Okayama Prefecture, spending my childhood and high‑school years in a rural area surrounded by farmland. I fell in love with tennis at the age of eight and devoted myself to daily practice. After graduating from high school, I joined the Japan Air Self‑Defense Force, inspired by my older brother, a former Air Self‑Defense Force member. I served as a fuel technician at Komatsu Air Base in the 6th Air Wing, gaining valuable experience. After leaving the service, I wanted to see more of the world beyond Japan, so I joined the Peace Boat global cruise. That journey sparked a deeper desire to experience different cultures and perspectives. I went on to study English in the Philippines and spent time in New Zealand and Australia on working‑holiday programs, building a wide range of experiences. While living in Melbourne, Australia, I met my wife, who became my life partner. After returning to Japan, we searched for a new place to call home. We were drawn to Hakuba’s rich natural environment and its international atmosphere, and decided to settle here. Hakuba is a place where you can meet people from all over the world while still being in Japan. I hope to provide warm and thoughtful support so that every guest feels, “I want to come back again.” Looking forward to meeting you all!
I was born in Suzaka city, Nagano, and grew up with the view of Northern Alps. When I lived in Tokyo or when I traveled outside of this city, I always missed the mountains. When my husband was transferred for his job, our family moved to the neighboring city, Omachi. That was when I took on the cleaning job in Hakuba. I was fascinated by Shiki Living’s properties – An amazing kitchen! A beautiful view! An open living room with large windows! The atrium! If I were to build my own house, I would definitely live a minimalist life like this… Surrounded by such great features, I fully enjoyed my cleaning job. I’ve been working as an office assistant ever since. I don’t speak English at all, but I’m working hard every day with the help of Google! Now, my family has grown to five, and we are back in my hometown of Suzaka city again, looking out over the Northern Alps and Hakuba mountains.

I’m from Taiwan. I first visited Hakuba on a working holiday about 10 years ago, and it was an incredible experience. Coming from a subtropical country, where snow is rare, I was fascinated by the snow town and winter landscapes. Besides the snowy winter, the seasonal color changes of the mountains are also incredibly attractive. With so many activities to enjoy in this beautiful nature, I hope more people can experience and appreciate Hakuba as much as I do!

I was born and raised in Machida, Tokyo, and later lived in Chigasaki, Kanagawa after graduating university.
I once visited Hakuba for a snowboarding trip and instantly fell in love with this beautiful village, which led me to move here. I now live in Omachi with my cute little cat and am enjoying my new life.
I love heading into the mountains to enjoy fresh powder in the morning and then coming into the office to start my workday.
