Interview with the Property Owner

From Japan

Mr. & Ms. HAL

《 Why did you build your house? 》

I remembered taking the bus late at night in my college years to go skiing in Hakuba. It was 20 years later that I visited Hakuba again. The serene atmosphere, clear air, and magnificent nature that I hadn’t noticed when I was younger soothed my heart, and made me decide to build a cottage, hoping to live in a place like this after retirement.

《 What was reason you are sharing your beautiful house with guests? 》

Skiing in winter, gathering wild vegetables and cycling in spring. Mountain climbing and sky sports in summer. A breathtaking view of the autumn leaves. I wanted to share the beauty of Hakuba with others, instead of keeping it to myself. I hope that my guests get to make great memories here.

《 How would you like HAL Cottage guests to enjoy your house? 》

When I am tired, I like to just hang loose in the cottage and do nothing but indulge in the view. On rainy days or in the off-season, it’s always nice to set up a small table and a chair out on the deck and listen to the birds sing while drinking coffee.
